Meet the Inventor

Kevin McQuillan, inventor of the Add-A-Rest, created the cervical support pillow for commuting out of necessity. 

As a New Yorker, born in the Bronx and raised in Peekskill, 9-11 was personal. I was a New York City Carpenter. When the re-build of Tower 7 began, I was working for a company that reconstructed the tower from the ground up. I walked the stairwells with the marks on the wall with the dates and times the FDNY/NYPD reached each floor rescuing & recovering the fallen. There was a different level of stress on this job – more than any other job, but still I felt privileged to be able to be part of putting “our” Towers back up! It was on this commute the product was first conceived.

At the time, I lived with my family in Westchester County and was commuting every day with 3 other carpenters. As the long hours on the job made the commute seam even longer, I realized that the headrests in the cars only served one purpose, and had that huge gap behind your neck. Why not take up that space ergonomically & comfortably?

I had never sewn anything other than those silly projects I made in home economics in Middle School, but on one ride home, I envisioned a travel pillow that would make EVERY ride a little more comfortable. I went home and cut up an old NY Giants sweatshirt and created a very primitive version of a travel pillow.

As we continued to drive to NY each day, I used the headrest pillow, but realized it could use improvement as far as comfort, attachment, and adjustability. A true posture support pillow that could be used in multiple placements for a variety of ailments. A comfort device that is now the Add-a-Rest Car Comfort & Travel pillow! We are proud of the evolution of this product into the Best Travel Pillow ever. Car comfort the way it should be, Less stress, more cushion.

I made this pillow to improve and enrich the comfort of traveling by car, plane, bus, or wherever you need support. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. - Kevin
